MOTION ANALYSIS
Motion Analysis
Vessel motion analysis and motion analysis for offshore lifting operations, covering crane tip motions, load excursions, and dynamic amplification factors.
Smart Veritas provides motion analysis services for vessels, floating structures, and transported cargo. Our engineers use OrcaWave, OrcaFlex, and ANSYS AQWA to predict vessel motions, payload excursions and assess operability under realistic environmental conditions.
Vessel Motion Analysis
We perform vessel motion analysis for construction vessels, transport barges, heavy lift vessels, and floating production units. Our analysis covers vessel and crane tip response across the full range of wave headings and sea states, providing the motion data required for equipment design, seafastening calculations, and operational planning. Specific results such as local acceleration components (Gx, Gy, Gz) at individual locations can be extracted. Through FlexDeck we can also perform automated Monte-Carlo simulations, ensuring design loads are statistically robust and conservative.
Motion Analysis for Lifts
We perform motion analysis for offshore lifting operations, covering crane tip motions, load excursions, and dynamic amplification factors. Using time-domain simulations, we model the full lift sequence including hook-on, lift-off, slewing, lowering, and set-down to determine safe operational limits. Our analysis captures vessel response to wave loading throughout each phase, quantifying horizontal and vertical excursions at the hook and load to verify clearances and assess collision risk with adjacent structures. For transits with a payload in the hook, we account for the apparent wave period shift due to vessel forward speed.
