MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION (MPI)
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
Magnetic particle inspection for checking the surface integrity of ferromagnetic materials. Detects surface and subsurface defects in welds, castings, and forgings.
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is an NDT method for checking the surface integrity of ferromagnetic materials. The material is magnetised using a handheld yoke or horizontal MPI bench setup, and ferrous particles are applied where they accumulate at flux leakage points, creating visible indications of surface and near-surface defects.
Surface & Subsurface Defects
MPI detects both surface-breaking and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. Indications are evaluated for nature, size, and severity against acceptance criteria specified in the applicable code or project specification.
Welds, Castings & Forgings
We perform MPI on welds, castings, and forgings to identify cracks, lack of fusion, laps, seams, and other discontinuities. Our inspections cover both in-process fabrication checks and final acceptance testing.
Handheld Yoke & Bench Setups
We use handheld electromagnetic yokes for site and workshop inspections, and horizontal MPI bench setups for smaller components requiring controlled magnetisation. Equipment is selected to suit the component geometry and inspection requirements.
Fluorescent & Dry Powder Techniques
For enhanced sensitivity, we employ fluorescent magnetic particles under UV black light in controlled lighting conditions. Dry powder and wet visible techniques are also available, selected based on surface condition and required sensitivity.
